This morning John McCain's campaign eclipsed Obama's shining moment by naming Gov. Sarah Palin as his Vice President on the very heels of Obama's nomination acceptance speech. All the newspapers were full of nothing but response to the surprise pick. Barack Obama's amazing speech got nary a mention.
The nomination of Gov. Palin reeks of tokenism -it a cynical, risky, desperate, pandering move aimed at collecting the votes of women, particularly those embittered by Sen. Clinton's failure to secure the nomination. But Gov. Palin and Sen. Cinton are similar in anatomy only, and it is insulting to suggest that women area so stupid as to be swayed merely by the addition of a female to the Republican ticket. But maybe they are?
