garden agenda

The day is best that begins with a detailed and orderly to-do list, and so without further ado, here is mine:

* Gingerly un-crowd the lamb's ear and the anise hyssop.

* Bury the crocosmia corms in a sensible place.

* Carefully plant out the schizanthus, columbine, english daisies, lupine, sunflowers, leeks and marigold seedlings in such a way as to avoid pulling them as weeds eventually.

* Direct seed a second round of lemon cucumbers and pole beans -whisper a prayer for the return of the sun.

* Direct seed lettuce, radishes, carrots and kale.

* Pot up the marjoram - and any other mysterious seedlings whose snarled tendrils lie languishing in the back room.

* Deliver a truckload of debris to compost heaven.

* Sink tubs of beer among the plants to lure the slugs to a sad drowning death- I hope they like Full Sail IPA.

* Harvest a zillion snow peas.

Ach, I'm sure they love full sail, but they love peas even more. Good luck!
